Communications
The Washington County Sheriff's Office Communications Division consists of the Communications/Dispatch and the Radio Service teams.
The Communications Center staff provide dispatch services and
answer Emergency 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls for all areas in
the county.
The radio service team ensures that the law enforcement agencies within the county have seamless radio and data coverage as they perform their daily duties. This includes service of mobile, portable, and data radio units as well as maintenance of other in-squad systems.
9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch
Dispatch services are handled by a dedicated group of 911
Emergency Dispatchers and Call Takers. The Communications Center
is overseen by a Communication Center Manager and five 911 Center Coordinators working on rotating shifts.
All dispatch staff are trained in Emergency Medical Dispatch in order to better assist callers with almost any kind of emergency situation.
Cellular companies are still rolling out updated 911 services that will allow emergency dispatch centers to locate callers using GPS or other similar technology in an emergency. Until these upgrades are complete, please be prepared to provide your phone number and location when calling to ensure that assistance can be sent to the correct location.
When you call 9-1-1, the call taker or dispatcher you speak with will record the information you provide to document the call and pass the information to their partners and emergency responders as well as to document the call. In emergency situations, multiple dispatchers could be involved to simultaneously take down the information, contact the officers on the street, and page the ambulance service or fire department - all at the same time. This cooperative effort helps by getting all of the available information out to emergency responders as soon as it is known.
